Have you ever been so anxious that you start to get a stomach ache?? That stomach pain is from anxiety!

why you get stomach ache from anxiety

I hate when I get an unexpected stomach ache that doesn’t seem to go away when I have anxiety. It just adds to what I am feeling, and if you are in public, it can feel super embarrassing to go to the bathroom to take care of it…

These tips have helped me so much, and I know can help you relieve stomach pain quickly if you are anxious or stressed.

5 Tips To Stop and Prevent Stomach Pain From Anxiety

1. Eat The Right Foods

You must be super careful when eating on a particularly stressful or anxious day. Ensure you are not eating foods that upset your stomach on a typical day!

For me, that means limiting dairy! Some of us cannot tolerate much dairy on a typical day, and thus, having yogurt and a glass of milk for breakfast might not be the best option.

Instead, choose a smoothie and crackers for a filling breakfast to keep your stomach pain at bay!

These are my favorite crackers because they have a variety of nutrients, and they are super salty! Crackers taste amazing and are an excellent solution for your anxious stomach.

Get to know your body better and notice how you feel after eating certain foods. This will help you be better prepared for the future and give you a clearer idea of what you should eat regularly. So this tip is for your life and not just for anxious days!

2. Take Medication

Tums and Pepto Bismol are great options for a quick fix on the physical symptoms of anxiety. My preference is pepto bismol because it helps with nausea and diarrhea, too. These are also common symptoms of stress and anxiety!

I like to keep a few pepto bismol tablets in my purse and backpack because I know that when I get anxious, the most is in public. It can feel so embarrassing to have to use the bathroom all the time (or for a long time), and that can make my stress and anxiety even worse.

The quickest fix for stomach pain from anxiety is to take some medicine and then work on the mental side of things.

3. Manage Your To-Do List

You have to learn when to say ‘yes’ and when to say ‘no’. This can make all the difference when it comes to your anxiety and stress.

If you say ‘yes’ to too many things, you will overwhelm yourself and become sick from stress.

There are so many great blog posts that you can read about boundaries and how to prioritize yourself. Do some research on how to incorporate better boundaries as an anxious person!

I always get recommended this book, and my therapist even suggested it to me as a teenager. I just haven’t gotten around to it, but I thought I would share it with you. If you struggle with people pleasing and anxiety, then I believe this book would be a God-send for you!

4. Mindfulness and Meditation

Meditation has quickly become an obsession of mine. If you haven’t tried it, then you really should! When you are feeling anxious, sometimes all you need to do is get out of your own head and meditation is a great way to do this.

To get used to meditation, I would start with mindfulness and noticing everything. Pay attention to how you feel and give zero judgment to any negative feelings.

Start to notice where you feel certain emotions, like anxiety you might feel in your chest or throat, for example. If you are reading this, you probably feel it in your stomach!

5. Move Around

Now, be careful not to move too fast or quickly because that can actually do the opposite effect and hurt your stomach. But walking around and getting some movement in can do some great stuff for your anxiety!
