The BEST Productivity Tips For Depressed People

Hello My Friends,
When you’re feeling depressed, being productive can seem like an impossible feat. I spent weeks finding THE BEST productivity tips for myself when I notice I am on a downward spiral. This made me decide to make a blog for those with depression that need simple tips to maintain their life even when we feel like we can’t get anything done.
Hopefully these tips will help y’all keep your life pieced together. This is also great for me to have a frame of reference for what works for me to look back on. I highly suggest you write down which ones work for you so then you can easily see what you’re able to do.

1. Set a 10 Minute Timer And Start Something Productive
I do 10 minutes of what I’m dreading to avoid a slump. This is usually at around 9 o’clock at night because I feel so upset with myself for not doing anything all day that I have a spurt of energy to do one thing. It also helps me sleep and makes me feel a little more put together.
Some ideas for the 10 minute timer include: Reading, cleaning, walking, picking up the trash in my room, tiding up my bathroom, move all my hangers to the front of my closet, tidy up my desk or bedside table, write out my homework for the week, start a piece of homework, watch a lecture, and cleaning myself up by changing clothes and showering.
2. Clean Up One Corner Of Your Space
This has really been a game changer for me. I’ve found that keeping at least one corner of the room really clean gives me the motivation to tidy up the rest of the space. I usually combine this with another tip of setting a 10 minute timer and finishing as much as I can (or just do minimal effort for 10 minutes if you’re really struggling) and then I can be done and I don’t have to do anymore.
3. Use Trello Whenever You Remember (or just a planner)
So if you don’t know what Trello is, I describe it as digital sticky notes with layers and due dates. This is a great productivity resource for depressed people since it is so simple to use. I write goals on here. When I’m feeling energized, I like to create a Trello board to keep track of my tasks and stay organized.
4. Whenever You Feel A Burst of Energy Use It
For me, I would sometimes feel really guilty doing simple easy assignments due at the end of the week when I had an assignment due the next day. BUT doing anything is honestly so rewarding so anytime you think you’d like to get an assignment done, DO IT. Because that feeling will wear off if you ignore it.
This is especially helpful for me to remember because somedays I don’t really feel like doing my Math homework so I do Spanish that day, but the next I sometimes get the urge to do my Math and my Spanish is already done. SO I’m productive and I feel accomplished.
5. Make the Most of Your Productive Days
This may seem self explanatory, but really good good days will help take the pressure off when you have a bad day. Write down assignments and start reading up on future projects you have or simply tidy up your living areas. The big idea for this post is to really be strategic and give yourself time and grace to decompress. By being slightly more productive one day we will relieve some of the anxiety of the future. Push through the anxiety of being productive and do as much as you can and then throw it out of your mind. Do not let the anxiety you have drag you down from pushing through life.
