Building habits is a hard thing. I know that to be true because I struggle with it as well.
BUT I have successfully built up healthy habits that keep me energized, feeling clean, and happy. These habits didn’t come from nowhere, they started out as self care and turned into a way of life!

Easy Introduction To Self Care
Take It Easy
Self care doesn’t have to be a full spa treatment every week or even every month. It can be as simple as brushing your teeth!
Make sure that you are taking the time to go slow for your self care. When you are washing your face, give yourself a little massage, when putting on lotion, put a little extra on your hands, and when reading, don’t speed read, take notes and write your thoughts in the margins.
Life shouldn’t always be fast paced, if there is one thing that I have learned it is that the best things come when we take it slow.
Don’t dive too deep into self care when you first start. It can get overwhelming really fast if you start to wake up at 5 am and have a whole morning routine when you haven’t gotten the basics down first.
Start by building up simple habits. These can include personal hygiene, drinking water, eating healthy or even just journaling one page a day. But my personal favorite way to get back into self care if I notice I am falling off track is to go back to the basics with personal hygiene.
Start With Personal Hygiene
Put a little extra effort into your personal hygiene when you are first getting started with self care. This usually means starting off with a little longer time in the bathroom ;).
What I mean by this is to flesh out your personal hygiene routine. What’s great about this is that you already probably have a hygiene routine, but finding some new products can really spark the joy of personal hygiene and make you want to never stop keeping up with it. Here are some recommendations I have for you if you are looking to try out some new products to get you started with self care.
Good Light Cosmic Dew Cleanser
My current favorite product for this is the Good Light Cosmic Dew Cleanser which foams up so nicely that I never want to stop washing my face! It is so relaxing to sit and wash my face now that it feels meditative when I use this cleanser.

Beekman 1802 Sleeping Mask
The next product I know you will love is this Beekman 1802 Sleeping Mask that is so hydrating I wear it almost every night. I wake up with the most beautiful skin every time I use it that I never want to stop using this product. It also has bakuchiol which is a natural and more gentler version of retinol, so you will also be getting anti aging and acne benefits from this sleeping mask as well. I use this product almost like a moisturizer at night so it is perfect for the everyday gal!

Kneipp Bath Salts
The next product I recommend is some bath salts. And not just any bath salts, these bath salts by Kneipp. You can buy them at Ulta, but they are cheaper on Amazon. They, honestly, make me feel like I’ve had a glass of wine. They’re so calming and soothing that they are perfect for self care! It says up to 10 baths, but honestly you only need a few tablespoons in the bath to feel it and smell it. I love that it doesn’t stain by tub either. It washes away so nicely!
Body Wash
The last product I recommend is some body wash. Feeling special in the shower all starts with a luxurious shower experience. One way to impact that is smell and lather of your body wash. The Harrys body wash is a great affordable option that has a million scents. I love these men’s body washes even though they can be harsh on the skin mainly because of their scents!
The Naturium body wash in the formula “The Glow Getter Multi-Oil Body Wash” is AMAZING! This body wash is amazing to shave with, to wash the skin while hydrating it, and even breaking up sunscreen off your skin. If you wear body sunscreen, you know how hard it is to get the film off your skin (especially if you wear multiple layers), but this body wash just melts it right off! Hygge
If you don’t know what hygge is (pronounced HOO-GA) then you are in for a real treat. Hygge is a Danish concept that encourages people to embrace coziness. It is all about lighting, candles, soft socks, and baths. Embrace the coziness with some hygge in your life!

Don’t Doom Scroll Everyday
The doom scroll is awful for your mental health. As an introduction to self care, working on your current habits is a great place to start.
Scrolling on your phone is a great habit to start working on because it can be an easy fix. So, what’s the trick? Fill your day with other activities!
Try scheduling yourself a time to do some yoga, going to the grocery store and cooking dinner, reading a book, taking a bath, listening to an audiobook while on a walk.
There are so many things that you can do to fill up your time other than scrolling on your phone.
You can also try little habits like drinking water, stretching, and even eating healthy are all great ways to fill little moments of your day when you would be sitting around on your phone.
