Tutoring Resources For Math Students of All Ages With Free Downloads
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Read a really boring disclaimer above to learn more!
Now, this blog post isn’t going to be anything fancy, because who has time for SEO sometimes… Right?

I am going to separate these resources by age range or course level to give you some great options.
For workbooks, I will mainly be referencing Chris McMullen’s books and IXL’s workbooks. IXL is controversial in parent’s eyes, yes. However, as a tutor and teacher, I have found many helpful resources that have changed the game for students when used appropriately.
Elementary Learners
Mathworksheets.com

https://www.mathworksheets.com
Man, do I love Mathworksheets.com! It is an easy packet to put together depending on the age and what week of the year it is. If the parent doesn’t have specifics that the student needs to work on, or they just need a little extra time in the math game, then this website is for you.
All you need to do is click on the grade level the student is at, and the current, or future, weeks. And it will provide a week’s worth of worksheets that are a great supplemental resource!
Shut The Box Game
Next is the Shut the Box game. I found this game on TikTok, but it has honestly helped me develop intuition with addition and subtraction in my students.
Basically, they roll two dice, add them together, and then put down two of the wooden chips that add up to that number. The goal is to put them all down by the end.
It is fun for kids and would be a great game to get kids comfortable with coming to tutoring with you!
IXL Workbooks
Now, believe me, I know how much people dislike IXL, and I won’t be going into that. But it does have every topic imaginable with examples and practice problems for your kids to practice. Also, you don’t need IXL to find value in these workbooks!
If the kid’s school gives them access to IXL, then it also has the corresponding code for the student to get some extra practice.

Middle School Math Resources
For Middle School students, you will find the elementary-level resources helpful as well, so look above to find those.
IXL Workbooks

Again, IXL is controversial. But I really like these workbooks. They are great for assigning to students or working through problems together. If you have whiteboards, you can increase the interest factor by doing the problems together on whiteboards instead of on paper!
Chris McMullen Workbooks

I recently discovered these Workbooks and I am obsessed with them. They have been such a great resource for practicing skills, recommending to parents, and giving students enrichment opportunities. Click here, or the picture, for the Grade 6 Math Workbook. And click here for the Essential Prealgebra Skills Practice Workbook.
One advantage of these is that there are no politics, that I am aware of, around these books. Parents don’t freak out when they see these books because they aren’t super popular.
He has also put these books on Kindle Unlimited so parents, or you could access the book for free if you have a KU account. If you’re looking to sign up for Kindle Unlimited, check out this link for a special offer!
Dice and Card Games
I know I did not come up with these, but I did want to add them because I use them often in tutoring and my classroom. You’d be surprised how many students need experience with math games to open their eyes.
Games that involve manipulating numbers can change the game for so many students and they are low prep!

This Post Was All About Math Resources for Tutors and Educators
Let me know what you think of these resources. I will aim to keep this updated as I find more resources and keep these the best that I have found.
I know these seem generic, but having a bin or bag of resources that you can pull from is helpful! Sometimes, a session goes by faster than anticipated and you need another activity. Having some worksheets, dice or card games, and other options can give you the opportunity to give the student an opportunity to make the most of their time!
