How to Reset Your Life for Spring (Without Overhauling Everything)

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Read a really boring disclaimer above to learn more!

I don’t know about you, but winter burnout is hitting a little harder this year than normal. That’s exactly why I wanted to come up with a list of small, doable, and calm spring reset ideas.

There is so much pressure coming from every direction to “reinvent yourself.” They want you to buy a whole new skincare routine, wardrobe, and change all of your habits to be hyper-optimized.

That’s really expensive and takes an impossible amount of work.

Most of us don’t have the time and mental capacity to optimize every aspect of our lives, glow up, eat healthy, and live a life you want to live. That’s why I want to talk about simple spring resets.

Why Spring Makes Us Crave a Reset

A spring life reset is romantic and thematic. Spring is the season of flowers growing, getting out of your winter hibernation, and cleansing rains.

All of nature is coming back to life and it makes you want to as well. A seasonal reset is so nice to grow and improve without overwhelming yourself with an overhaul of everything you do, eat, and don’t do.

Spring also comes with longer days, natural energy shifts, and a desire for a fresh start without chaos.

5 Gentle Ways to Reset Your Life for Spring

1. Reset one daily habit

Don’t focus on fixing everything at once. That will not be attainable. You need to choose one thing that you can incorporate into your life that can make your day at least 1% better.

Some ideas that I have loved recently are:

  • Creating a “closing shift” of things I do everynight before bed (like the dishes, wiping counters, and mopping or vacuuming)
  • Combine a new habit with an old one. For example, when you brush your teeth you also dance to fun music
  • Wake up early just for a slow moving morning

Here is one of my favorite blog posts that I think you’d like if this resonates with you!

2. Do a “spring edit,” not a deep clean

Editing your closet, spice cabinet, or even just one drawer will make you feel so refreshed and accomplished. Take a little bit of time to refresh the space around you to set yourself up for more a more productive and calming year.

A deep clean can take weeks, months, or even years depending on how deep you want to clean! Instead of doing a swedish death clean with your house, give yourself space to slowly edit your home.

Plan out one place to edit a week. One drawer here and there. Don’t spend hours on one space ever. This can deter you from coming back and doing another space.

3. Refresh your routines, not your schedule

My phrase for the year is “Create Sustainable Routines” because I know how much routines have changed my life.

A schedule can always change, but they are harder to shift than a routine. If you create a routine for everything you do, you will notice the efficiency. Don’t get overly obsessed with this. Be gentle with yourself!

For example, I know whenever I wake up I take my vitamins, put on a robe and cozy socks, and start making breakfast. If I wanted to refresh this routine, maybe I would reflect on this routine and wake up a little earlier so I can make a nicer breakfast. I love to cook so I know it would be fulfilling to make a nice breakfast.

Self care for me is cooking and cleaning. But there are so many affordable ways to boost your self care routines. Here is a post I wrote all about this subject!

4. Revisit goals you abandoned in winter

The winter starts off with holidays and time with people 24/7 or feelings of lonliness. It is hard to keep up with your goals during that time. It is only natural that your goals would be pushed to the wayside.

Think back to what goals you had in the fall. What were you spending your time on? Is there any way you can turn those goals into routines?

Take 5 minutes today to think this through. You don’t have to do everything today or even tomorrow. Add some time into your planner for your goals.

5. Create one thing to look forward to weekly

This is the biggest life hack ever. I know that sounds cheesy, but having things to look forward to will give you a completely different perspective.

Have a fun project you’re going to do over the weekend. Plan a camping trip. Set out to make every recipe from a cookbook in a year. Whatever would make you happy will help you feel like you’re doing life right! (And you will be:)

I know that it can be so hard to get up and get things done if it feels like there is nothing to look forward to.

It is even worse if you wake up anxious and you don’t even know why!

I have a whole post about this that I will leave linked below for you if you feel like you need to work on your anxiety in the morning.

Final Thoughts

I want to encourage you to embrace slowness. Give yourself permission to take things slowly and embrace imperfect progress. That is all a part of the journey!
