Implementing self care reminders in your daily routine can significantly enhance your mental well-being and overall quality of life.

When Self Care feels like a chore, remembering to implement self-care into your routine can be hard. As someone with ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety, I completely understand these tendencies. That’s why I created some amazing tips for remembering these tasks!

This post is all about self-care reminders!

Apps For Self-Care Reminders

The first app that helps you remember to practice self-care is CareU. CareU app helps you create routines, plan and maintain healthy habits, and log your mood.

CareU is a pretty app that makes you want to use it and has many hidden gems that can help you create even stronger routines.

This is a free app, but it does have in-app purchases.

If you’re looking for an app that is highly rated by many, you are in luck with Eden. Eden is a very similar app to CareU, but the design is clean and minimalist.

You can create checklists of tasks you would like to complete that day. Every time you complete a task, you water a plant that blooms into a flower. Every time you miss a task, a part of it fades away.

Eden helps because you are taking care of a garden while taking care of you. It gives you an extra bit of motivation outside of yourself!

The app is free for up to five tasks a day. Any more than that, you will need to buy the premium. But I do think that five tasks a day are manageable and achievable.

Here’s The Tips

1. Make it cute!

Cute self-care reminders can make it much more exciting to go through your self-care routines!

Try writing down a list in calligraphy or using new markers to excite yourself about self-care.

Romanticize going on a walk or taking a shower and enjoy all of your self-care by making yourself think it is the cutest thing in the world.

Play pretty music and act like you’re in a music video!

2. Write it On Your Mirror

Lipstick is a great way to do this, or you can use Post-it notes or erasable markers.

All of these options make sure cute and memorable self-care reminders. If you go to the bathroom at all, you’re guaranteed to see it, and if you brush your teeth, then you’re 100% going to see it!

You could even write cute quotes or bible verses about self-care to help you remember its importance. Here are some of my favorite self-care quotes:

you are deserving of rest and self-care without having to “achieve” anything first

owning less stuff means cleaning less

a feeling lasts for a shorter amount of time than you think

Visual reminders are a powerful tool for maintaining your self-care routine. Using lipstick, post-it notes, or erasable markers to write uplifting quotes or affirmations on your bathroom mirror is terrific. You visit it multiple times daily, ensuring that these messages of self-care and positivity are always in your sight.

Changing the quotes or verses weekly can make this practice even more impactful. This keeps the messages fresh and relevant, continually inspiring you on your self-care journey.

Consider using your handwriting rather than printed quotes to add a personal touch. There’s something immensely personal and powerful about seeing words of encouragement in your own script.

In addition to quotes and verses, you could also write down simple self-care prompts like “Take a deep breath,” “Smile at yourself,” or “What are you grateful for today?”. These can serve as gentle reminders to pause, reflect, and care for yourself amid the busyness of life.

Remember that self-care is a profoundly personal journey; what works for one person may not work for another. So feel free to get creative with your reminders and tailor them to suit your preferences and needs. After all, the goal is to create a self-care routine that brings joy, peace, and balance to your life.

3. Make it Easy

Make sure to make your self-care easy!

Especially when you are just starting your self-care journey, you will want to make your self-care super super easy.

Put all your essentials in a place that is always clean and easy to get to: a pair of tennis shoes and socks for a walk, a journal and a pen, lotion for giving your hands a massage, etc.

Find small items you can always have ready to make your self-care journey super easy!

Indeed, simplicity is essential in self-care, especially in the beginning. By making it easy and accessible, you’re more likely to stick with your new habits.

Consider creating a self-care kit or basket filled with your favorite items. This could include a soothing candle, a comforting blanket, a favorite book, or even a stress ball. The idea is to have everything you need for a moment of relaxation at your fingertips.

In addition to physical items, consider easy-to-implement practices that don’t require anything but yourself. This could be a simple breathing exercise, a few minutes of stretching, or even just taking a moment to savor a cup of tea.

Digital tools can also be part of your accessible self-care arsenal. Numerous apps offer guided meditations, relaxing music, or daily affirmations at the touch of a button.

Remember, self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Even the smallest acts can have a big impact. By preparing and keeping your self-care essentials readily accessible, you’re setting yourself up for success on your self-care journey. The easier it is, the more likely it will become a regular part of your life.

4. Have A Self Care Buddy

Find a friend who is also looking to incorporate self-care into their routine. Ask them to ask you occasionally how your self-care journey is going, and you can ask them the same.

Ask at random times to create spontaneous self-care reminders for each other to keep you more accountable.

Choose to lift each other up and encourage each other to be the best and healthiest versions of yourselves.

Additionally, this shared journey of self-care can become a strong bonding experience. You could plan regular self-care activities together, such as attending a yoga class, going for a nature walk, or even just having a quiet coffee chat. These joint activities serve as self-care reminders and create shared experiences that can strengthen your friendship.

Sharing your self-care goals and progress with each other can also foster a sense of mutual respect and understanding. It creates a safe space to express your struggles and victories without judgment, knowing that the other person is on a similar journey.

Furthermore, having a self-care buddy adds an element of fun to the process. You can introduce each other to different self-care practices, exchange tips, and even challenge each other to try new things. This can keep your self-care routine fresh and exciting, preventing it from becoming just another chore.

Partnering up for your self-care journey can be a powerful strategy. Not only does it provide spontaneous reminders and accountability, but it also offers support, camaraderie, and motivation. Together, you can navigate the path to wellness while enriching your friendship along the way.

5. Create a Self Care Kit

Self-care kits are a fantastic tool that everyone should have.

Some days, it feels impossible to practice self-care, whether it is because of time or you can’t even get out of bed.

Have a kit that is easily visible and always in a clean place.

Maybe next to your couch is the best option, and cover the top of the kit with a blanket so it just looks like a basket of blankets.

Whatever you choose, make a basket and put it in a place where you will see it all the time.

This is the best type of self-care reminder because it is in your face, and you can’t ignore it!
