Here are some of the coping mechanisms I have found work for me and that I tell my friends in my life.
- Write Down Everything Stressing You Out, and Cross Out Anything You Can’t Control! This will help not only your thoughts, but also help you figure out what you can do to control any outside stressors. Just remember that you can’t control everything.
- Ask Yourself ‘Why?’ When Going Down Thought Spirals: Analyze your thoughts and do self therapy. Figure out why you are thinking what you are thinking and sit with it for awhile. Just take time to analyze your thoughts without judgement of yourself. Just be present.
- Practice Self Care: I have tons of blog posts about this. Here is one over affordable self care. Take some time to take care of yourself, drink water, and eat something good. Show yourself that you’re worth it.
- Clean Your Room: If you don’t have enough energy for this, then just rest. But when you get enough energy, throw away trash, move clothes to the basket, or put them away. This will get most of your room done. You deserve to live in a clean and healthy environment. When I am at work and feel stressed, I will tidy up the room and sweep, and I feel much better afterward.
- Drink Your Water: You might feel sick because you aren’t drinking any water if you’re drinking caffeinated drinks and alcohol that can make you feel even worse. It might even increase anxiety and thus your depression.
